SWF to AC3 Converter
FileFlip converts SWF to AC3 entirely inside your browser, using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. The file is never uploaded to a server: it is read off your disk, converted on your own machine, and saved back by the browser. That means no file-size limit, no queue and no account.
How do I convert an SWF file to AC3?#
- Drop your SWF file onto the converter at the top of this page, or click it to pick one from your computer. You can add as many as you like.
- Leave the target set to AC3 and the conversion starts on its own. FileFlip downloads 30.8 MB of WebAssembly the first time and nothing after that, then runs FFmpeg on your own machine.
- Save the AC3 file. Your browser writes it straight to your downloads folder, because there was never a server holding it.
Does converting SWF to AC3 lose quality?#
Yes, a little. SWF and AC3 are both lossy, so the file is decoded from one encoding and written into another, and detail goes each way. A single conversion is usually impossible to spot; converting back and forth repeatedly is not.
Is it safe to convert SWF files online?#
Yes, because nothing is uploaded. FileFlip converts SWF files inside the browser tab you already have open, using WebAssembly builds of the same engines a desktop converter would install. Your file is read from your own disk into the page's memory, and no request carrying it is ever made.
You do not have to take that on trust. Open your browser's network panel, run a conversion, and you will see the engine come down and your file go nowhere. There is no upload, no server-side copy, no retention window, and no account tied to what you converted.
How FileFlip works lists every engine, its version and its download size, and shows how to check for yourself that nothing leaves your machine.
What SWF to AC3 actually does to the file#
Converting SWF to AC3 runs on FFmpeg, downloads 30.8 MB of WebAssembly the first time and nothing after that, decodes one lossy encoding and writes another, and drops encoded streams and video tracks.
| Engine | FFmpeg |
|---|---|
| Conversion path | One step: SWF → AC3 |
| Downloaded to your browser | 30.8 MB, once, then cached by your browser |
| Quality | Lossy, second generation |
| You get back | One file |
| Where it runs | In a background worker, so the page stays responsive |
What survives the conversion
| What is in the file | This conversion | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Encoded streams | Dropped | The target format has nowhere to put it. |
| Video tracks | Dropped | The target format has nowhere to put it. |
What is an SWF file?#
An SWF file is a Flash movie, a mix of vector graphics, ActionScript code and, from Flash Player 6 onward, embedded audio and video, the format that carried most animation and video on the web before HTML5.
There is no reason to author new content as SWF; it survives only as a format to recover material from.
Convert an SWF's embedded video to MP4 to get a playable file out of it, since Flash Player itself no longer runs anywhere it isn't specifically emulated.
What is an AC3 file?#
An AC3 file holds a Dolby Digital bitstream, the compressed multi-channel audio format Dolby Laboratories introduced in 1991 for cinema and later carried onto DVD, Blu-ray discs, and digital television broadcasts.
Keep audio as AC3 when it is a DVD, Blu-ray, or broadcast track destined for a home theater receiver that decodes Dolby Digital natively.
Convert AC3 to AAC, MP3, or WAV when the audio needs to play on a phone, a laptop, or in a web page, none of which decode Dolby Digital on their own.
SWF to AC3 questions people ask#
Can I still open an SWF file in 2026?
Yes, through Ruffle, an open-source Flash Player emulator written in Rust that runs as a standalone app on Windows, macOS and Linux, or as a browser extension that plays SWF files Adobe's own player no longer will. It covers the large majority of ActionScript 1.0 and 2.0 content and most of ActionScript 3.0, though not every advanced feature.
When exactly did Flash stop working?
Adobe ended Flash Player support on December 31, 2020, then shipped an update on January 12, 2021 that actively blocks Flash content from playing in it. Any SWF file made before that date needs Ruffle or a similar emulator to run today.
What comes out of converting an SWF to video?
Only whatever video stream was embedded inside the SWF in the first place, added to Flash from Flash Player 6 onward. Vector animation, interactive menus and ActionScript code have no video equivalent, so an SWF built as an animation or a game rather than a video player will yield little or nothing to convert.
What creates an AC3 file?
An AC3 file is almost always extracted from a DVD, a Blu-ray disc, or a digital TV broadcast, all of which store their surround-sound track as a Dolby Digital bitstream. Ripping software and video editors pull that track out as a standalone .ac3 file when they separate audio from video.
