CRW was one of the early raw image file formats used by Canon digital cameras. It captures all the data from the camera’s sensor without any compression or processing, preserving the maximum amount of image information for post-processing. However, this format has largely been superseded by the newer CR2 and CR3 formats, which provide more advanced features and better compression. CRW files require specialized software for viewing and editing, and they are generally larger in size compared to standard compressed image formats.

XCF (eXperimental Computing Facility) is the native image format of the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) software. It is a layered image format, allowing users to save their progress, layers, channels, paths, and text layers for further editing. While XCF retains all editing data and layers, it's not typically used for web or print because many other programs do not recognize it. Instead, it's primarily used to save intermediate stages of digital art or photo editing within GIMP.
