What is an OGA file?#

An OGA file is the same Ogg container as an OGG file, but under Xiph.Org's extension convention it marks audio using any codec, Vorbis, Opus, FLAC or Speex, rather than being reserved for Vorbis specifically.

Use OGA when you need an extension that correctly signals "Ogg audio" without asserting the file is specifically Vorbis.

What plays OGA files?

VLC opens OGA files on any platform regardless of which codec is inside, since it supports the full range of Ogg codecs. Players that only recognize .ogg specifically, rather than any Ogg audio, may need the file renamed to .ogg or to a codec-specific extension like .opus before they'll open it.
