What is an OGA file?#
An OGA file is the same Ogg container as an OGG file, but under Xiph.Org's extension convention it marks audio using any codec, Vorbis, Opus, FLAC or Speex, rather than being reserved for Vorbis specifically.
Use OGA when you need an extension that correctly signals "Ogg audio" without asserting the file is specifically Vorbis.
Convert OGA to a single-codec format like MP3 or FLAC when a destination app infers the codec from the extension, since many tools still assume .oga could hold anything.
What is a WAV file?#
A WAV file holds digital audio, almost always uncompressed PCM samples, wrapped in Microsoft and IBM's RIFF chunk structure, the same sample encoding used on audio CDs.

What's the difference between OGG and OGA?
OGA and OGG are the exact same Ogg container format; only the extension differs. Xiph.Org's convention, in use since 2007, reserves .ogg for Vorbis-encoded audio specifically and uses .oga for Ogg audio that could be any codec, including FLAC or Opus, so an .oga file makes no promise about which codec is inside.
Can an OGA file be lossless?
Yes. Unlike a strict .ogg file, which by convention means Vorbis and is always lossy, an .oga file can hold FLAC encoded inside an Ogg container, which is lossless, alongside the more common lossy options like Vorbis, Opus or Speex.
What plays OGA files?
