Strengths and limitations of K25#
What K25 does well
- Records unprocessed sensor output from one of the earliest mass-market cameras to use removable CompactFlash storage
Where K25 falls short
- Locked to a single 1996 camera model with a maximum resolution of 493 by 373 pixels
- The Kodak DC25 has been discontinued for decades, and the format predates EXIF, so files carry very little embedded metadata
K25 only comes up when opening images pulled from an original Kodak DC25 memory card; there is no reason to create one today.
Convert K25 to TIFF or PNG for long-term storage, since almost no current photo software recognizes the format directly.
How to open a .k25 file#
A .k25 file opens in the programs below, grouped by the platform you are on. If you would rather not install anything, FileFlip converts K25 into a format your machine already opens, and it does it in the browser tab rather than on a server.
| Platform | Programs that open it |
|---|---|
| Windows | RawTherapee, darktable |
| macOS | RawTherapee, darktable |
| Linux | RawTherapee, darktable, dcraw |
| Web | FileFlip |
K25 questions people ask#
What camera made this K25 file?
A K25 file comes exclusively from the Kodak DC25, a consumer digital camera released in 1996. No other camera ever wrote this format.
What still opens a K25 file today?
K25 files open in raw converters built on the LibRaw library, such as RawTherapee and darktable, which still list the Kodak DC25 among their supported cameras. Kodak's own software for the camera is long unsupported.
Is K25 the same as other Kodak raw formats like DCR or KDC?
No. K25 is specific to the Kodak DC25, while DCR belongs to Kodak's professional DCS-series cameras and KDC belongs to later Kodak consumer models. The extensions come from the same manufacturer but are not interchangeable.

FileFlip does not write .k25 files, so nothing on the site converts into this format. It works as a source only.
Every conversion runs inside your browser. The file is read from your disk, the work happens on your own machine, and nothing is uploaded. How FileFlip works names the engine behind each family and how to verify that for yourself.
